WHEN I WAS 20 YEARS OLD I WAS TALKING TO A FRIEND ABOUT THIS WILD STORY ABOUT A GUY IN THE BIBLE NAMED JONAH.

LONG STORY SHORT: GOD TOLD JONAH, “I NEED YOU TO GO TO THIS PLACE CALLED NINEVAH AND HELP THEM.”
(THIS WAS CRAZY BECAUSE OF THE HISTORY AND RACISM BETWEEN THE NINEVITES AND THE HEBREWS —
FOR CONTEXT, I HAVE READ BEFORE THAT FOR JONAH TO GO TO NINEVAH WOULD BE LIKE ASKING A JEW TO GO VISIT GERMANY DURING WORLD WAR II — THAT WAS TYPE OF RELATIONSHIP THAT THE NINEVITES HAD WITH THE HEBREWS.

JONAH TRIED TO RUN IN THE EXACT OPPOSITE DIRECTION OF NINEVAH.
AT ONE POINT IN HIS ESCAPE, JONAH WAS IN A BOAT AND A HUGE STORM CAME AND THE CAPTIAN WAS LIKE, “WHO’S FAULT IS THIS” AND JONAH WAS LIKE, “THIS IS MY FAULT, THROW ME OVERBOARD” AND THEY JUST.. DID

A WHALE CAME AND SWALLOWED HIM UP AND HE WAS IN THIS WHALE FOR 3 DAYS AND THEN THE WHALE SPIT HIM OUT AT NINEVAH

THERE IS SO MUCH MORE TO ACTUALLY UNPACK IN THIS STORY BUT IN OUR 20 YEAR OLD BRAINS, WE THOUGHT “WHAT’S CRAZY IS THAT, EVEN WHEN JONAH RAN IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION OF WHERE HE WAS TOLD TO GO, HE ENDED UP WHERE HE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE.”

IT’S A STRETCH OF A CONNECTION BUT I STILL THINK ABOUT THAT DAILY.

EVEN IF I MAKE MISTAKES, RUN, FAIL, SUCCEED, DROP THE BALL, WHATEVER — I THINK/HOPE IT ALL WILL STILL LEAD ME TO WHERE I AM SUPPOSED TO BE.

WELCOME TO THE FAMILY
